Arusha is a city in the north of Tanzania and it is considered the gateway to the so-called Tanzania Northern Circuit.
Located on Mountain Meru’s slope, at an altitude of 1,400 meters, Arusha towers above the national park which takes its name from the city. It enjoys a temperate climate throughout the year.
The population amounts to about 400,000 inhabitants and the city is developing at a blistering pace both in terms of buildings and accommodation facilities, where travelers who are waiting for their safari trip can find accommodations suitable for all tastes.
The symbol of the city is the Clock Tower, in the center of a roundabout with clocks on its four sides. It is supposed to be built at the halfway between Cairo in Egypt and Capetown in South Africa, the two opposite points of the British Empire.
Near Arusha we recommend going on an unforgettable day trip to Lake Duluti. It is a crater lake surrounded by forest and with no crocodiles. Guided tours with local guides through its boundary are offered there. The typical animal is the monitor, a large tropical lizard.
Arusha is not only the headquarter of the TANAPA (Tanzania National Parks Authority), which is responsible for the management of Tanzania’s national parks, but it also hosts the East African Community.
