No vaccines are compulsory or required. A tourist, who arrives or has stayed in a yellow-fever-infected country (Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, Mozambique, etc.), must have a certificate of vaccination against yellow fever, even in case of stopover (more than 12 hours) or tour outside Tanzania, both when he/she enters and leaves the country.

Other vaccines recommended are those against typhoid and hepatitis A, as well as malaria prophylaxis, especially if you planned a trip to coastal areas.

The time zone changes from country to country.

To make a call to your country, always remember to dial the area code (+country code) followed by that of the city with zero and the telephone number (if mobiles, do not dial zero). Rates are extremely high, but the hotels of the main cities have Wi-Fi. In lodges as well as in National Parks’ tented camps this service is not guaranteed or, anyway, very spotty.

To make a call from your country to Tanzania, the international area code is +225.

Weather conditions in Tanzania depend on the areas. The country usually has a tropical climate but, while on the coast it is humid with temperatures between 26°C and 30°C, the interior is drier and the average temperature drops, especially in high altitude areas like on the Ngorongoro Crater Rim and on the Kilimanjaro. Cities like Arusha, located at more than 1,000 meters above sea level, have a mild climate throughout the year, especially during July and August, when nights and mornings are more than cold.

Tanzania has two rain seasons: the ’long rains’ from March to May and the ’short rains’ from the end of October to the beginning of December. Tanzanian summer is from January to March: temperatures can be very high.

If the travel program includes sightseeing tours and relaxation on the islands, there are no particular suggestions regarding clothing.

Concerning safaris, it is advisable wearing natural fibre and neutral tones like beige, light brown, green or colours not too different from those of the savannah. Do not wear dark-coloured clothing, especially blue and black. Cover your arms and legs, wear comfortable shoes, have with you an outer jacket to keep you warm and a rain coat.

Do not forget hat, sunglasses, sun cream, insect repellent, a binocular and the photographic equipment.

Your luggage should not be too heavy: limit the weight of your duffel bag to 15 kg, this would be right even for short flights (in some cases hand luggage must not exceed 10 kg).

Tanzania’s official languages are Swahili and English, in addition to dialects spoken by almost 124 local tribes.

It is the TANZANIAN SHILLING. The current exchange rate is approximately EUR 1=TSH 2400/2650 and USD 1=2200/2300 TSH, but variations are quite common. Always check before. US dollars issued after 2006 are used. Credit cards are accepted in hotels and supermarkets. You can withdraw shillings from ATMs with a commission (approximately 8.000/12.000 shillings) added to that charged by your own bank.

Not compulsory, but if you liked the service, they would be welcomed and that means respect. Remember that euro and dollar coin’s exchange is impossible in Tanzania: use shillings as coins and banknotes as any other currency.

Tanzania is powered by a 110/240V. You must use a British three-square-pin plug, but unfortunately, electricity supply can be erratic there, so it is advisable to use the battery of your devices, because not every accommodation facilities have a power unit. If you need to charge your devices, ask to the reception desk at your lodges or camps.

The facilities cover any type of request: from lodges and four-star hotels, to very scenic and well-managed tented camps. You can choose accommodations based on prices and find the right solution for every type of traveler. Despite the possibility of organizing safaris in public campsites, Spaziosafari Ltd does not deal with this type of accommodation as it is possible to find alternative solutions among those offered by accommodation facilities in a comfortable and organized environment.
