The safari starts at Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) where you will meet the guide who will remain in your company for the whole trip and who will welcome you with a shrill ‘jambo!’ It is the special greeting for you, the guest, followed by ‘karibu Tanzania’, 'welcome to Tanzania'.
From Kia you are taken by car to the city of Arusha, the undisputed capital of safaris in Tanzania. The road is good, paved, and the journey takes about 45 minutes.
Arusha is located at about 1,400 meters above sea level, on the slopes of Mount Meru which stands in the national park that takes its name from the city, and the climate is mild all year round.
If the flight arrived in late morning or early afternoon, you can plan to take a tour of the city, to eat in a typical restaurant, to acclimate to the African climate and landscape.
" Karibu Tanzania - Welcome to Tanzania "
Arusha is known by all as the gateway to the parks of the northern circuit. The city is rarely visited and the park that takes its name from it is often underestimated. This is a big mistake. The city offers a lot both in terms of reception and entertainment and in terms of natural beauty. There are many hidden aspects of this dizzyingly expanding city as there are many corners for a walk in nature. Tree-lined roads that could be described in a fairy tale, rows and rows of coffee plants, sometimes bare, sometimes covered with ripe red fruits waiting to be harvested. The possibility of wandering with the mind in absolute relaxation. Among the beauties that Arusha offers there is its national park. Part of the park is covered by the rainforest and inside the beautiful Mount Meru stands, a still active volcano, which is also the second highest mountain in all of Tanzania with its 4.566 meters. Another feature of this park is the Ngurdoto Crater, a small caldera of about three kilometers, full of fauna. For bird lovers there are many ornithological species and the seven small Momella Lakes with their extremely alkaline waters attract numerous flamingos, spectacular seen from afar: immense pink spots. As for the remaining fauna, there are elephants, giraffes, herbivores, but the lion is completely absent.
Of course, it is possible to trek the Meru: some consider it a training before tackling the great giant, the Kilimanjaro.
Among the plants present in the park it is necessary to point out the singular strangling fig, a strange species of parasite that envelops the host plant until it kills it. Much photographed is the specimen under which the cars pass during their visit to the park.
Mkomazi National Park is located between the Pare Mountains and the Usambara Mountains and is a semi-arid savannah. It is a park with several uniquenesses that is home to animals not found in other parks.
Among others are lesser kudus, impalas and the rare gerenuk, a strange antelope that stands on its hind legs to graze in trees.
There are lots of elephants, buffaloes, zebras and oryxes, among the symbolic animals of the park.
Big cats like lions, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas are more elusive.
Inside the park it is possible to visit the two sanctuaries that were created to protect the endangered species of black rhinos and African wild dogs.
The landscape is harsh and arid, but extremely fascinating: a truly wild and uncontaminated environment that is little beaten by the more tourist circuits. A powerful place where you can find true contact with nature.
The Usambara, with a maximum height of 2,400 meters, are very interesting for their ecosystems. Inside there are protected areas for some plants and some species of birds, endemic to the area.
There are many activities to do including bird watching, spice tour, boat safari on the beautiful lake surrounded by the forest and much more.
The landscape is lovely and peaceful. A different and exciting experience, in total symbiosis with nature.
On the last day, the road traveled to reach these places is retraced backwards, this time with a new spirit and awareness and the eyes with which you look at the panorama have changed. Upon returning, you look with your heart, you notice different things, you focus more on details that at first sight seemed insignificant. Yes, because Tanzania is all beautiful. The parks are a flagship for the care with which they are managed, but the villages and the people are also terrific. Your guide will escort you to Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) for your return journey, but it will be a painful farewell. Our guides are extraordinary, professionally and humanly. They carry out their work with passion and dedication: it is not possible not to become attached to them. The flight ladder will bring you back to reality and everyday life, but it is certain that Tanzania will remain in your heart as one of the most extraordinary journeys ever.
