Kifaru Safari in Tanzania
Travel Program
The safari begins at Kilimanjaro International Airport where you meet your guide and transfer to Moshi for dinner and overnight.
Located in northeast Tanzania, this park is one of the country’s most spectacular and least-known natural areas. A typical day here offers an immersive experience of the landscape’s wild beauty and rich biodiversity.
Days start early with a jeep safari or a ranger-led walk.
During the morning, there is a good chance of spotting giraffes, elephants, zebras and antelope, including oryx and lesser kudu. Mkomazi is famous for its conservation program for the endangered black rhino and African wild dog, where you can learn about conservation efforts.
Lunch is at a picnic area, and in the afternoon, a second game drive is set out. The park offers a variety of ecosystems, from semi-arid savannahs to acacia woodlands. Explore lookout points to admire the rolling hills and breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the Pare Mountains.
Sunset is the perfect time to see predators such as lions and leopards, which are more active in cooler temperatures.
With almost no light pollution, the Mkomazi sky offers an extraordinary view of the stars in the evening in the tented camp, while listening to the sounds of nature.
The park, less crowded than other parks in the north, is an ideal place for those seeking an authentic and quiet experience in African nature.
Visit to the sanctuaries in Mkomazi Park.
Black Rhino Sanctuary: The park is home to one of the most successful conservation programmes for the highly threatened black rhino. The sanctuary is a fenced and well-protected area where rhinos are monitored to ensure their safety and to promote reproduction. The main objective is to preserve the population and gradually reintegrate it into the wild.
African Wild Dog Programme: The African wild dog is one of the most endangered species in Africa. Mkomazi is a centre of excellence for the repopulation of this species, thanks to conservation efforts, which include breeding and reintroduction into the wild. The wild dogs, known for their complex social dynamics, find an ideal environment to thrive here.
Visitors can observe rhinos and wild dogs in controlled environments, contributing financially to the protection of the species through entrance fees.
Mkomazi National Park is a shining example of how responsible tourism and conservation efforts can work together to safeguard Africa’s iconic species.
On the last day, you retrace the path you took to reach these places, this time with a new spirit and awareness, but the eyes with which you look at the panorama have changed. The parks are a jewel in the crown for the care with which they are managed, but also the villages and the people are fantastic.
The guide who accompanied you throughout the safari will take you to the airport for the return trip to Europe or for an internal flight to the islands.
