Among the beauties that Arusha offers is its national park. Part of the park is covered by the rainforest and inside stands the beautiful Mount Meru, a still active volcano, which is also the second highest mountain in all of Tanzania with its 4,566 meters. Another feature of this park is the Ngurdoto Crater, a small caldera of about three km, overflowing with fauna.

For bird lovers there are many ornithological species and the seven small Momella lakes with their extremely alkaline waters attract numerous flamingos, spectacular seen from afar: immense pink spots. As for the remaining fauna, there are elephants, giraffes, herbivores, but the lion is completely absent.

It is possible to trek up Mount Meru: some consider it a workout before tackling the great giant, the Kilimanjaro.

Among the plants present in the park, you can find the singular strangler fig, a strange species of parasite that envelops the host plant until it kills it. The specimen under which the jeeps pass during the visit to the park is very photographed.

This park is one of the nicest of the northern circuit. It is crossed by the Tarangire River: source of life for plants and animals.

The park is famous for its large communities of huge elephants and baobabs. The baobab is a massive tree of truly incredible size and it seems that it can live up to 3,000 years.
For Africans, especially for bush-dwelling tribes, it is a micro world. Villages are created around the baobab. Inside, people shelter, store food and sometimes bury the dead.
The reality is that it serves everyone in one way or another. Nothing is thrown away. Leaves and fruits are eaten, the roasted seeds are used to make a drink and the spongy bark provides material for making ropes, mats and baskets. Perhaps, however, the most important use lies in being a meeting place, the reference point of the village. In the shade of its branches you can rest, wait for the time to hunt and make important decisions.
It seems like a simple life, but it follows very precise rules and, above all, it’s handed down from generation to generation. The roots of the baobab are the roots of the community, the tradition that regulates life.

You can find grasslands and marshes in the southern part of the park which offer the visitor exceptional views.

The park covers an area of approximately 2,600 sq km and the river is central to life within it: during the dry season it is possible to witness a small migration of wildebeests and zebras towards its waters and in general it guarantees a high concentration of animals.

It is 120 kilometers from Arusha and this means that it is quite easily accessible.

You leave early, just after breakfast, as the journey to the Serengeti is long.
In order to reach the Serengeti it is necessary to pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a short stop at the Crater View Point, from which you can enjoy a spectacular view.

The first contact with the Serengeti is the southern plains and the game drive begins.

In Serengeti there are all the big five: lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and rhinoceros, but also gazelles and antelopes, hyenas, jackals, giraffes, hippos. In short, just all the best fauna that only Africa can boast.
The night is spent in tents. The curfew is linked to light: after sunset you can leave your tent only if escorted for safety reasons.

Last safari in Serengeti while reaching Ngorongoro with picnic lunch. In the afternoon, descent to the crater. Dinner and overnight in Karatu village.

This place is one of the most famous in the whole African continent and among the most filmed in the world.
It covers an area of 8,292 sq km and you have to lean over that railing overlooking the Ngorongoro crater if you really want to understand the force of nature.
What we see today is the consequence of a terrible explosion that took place about two and a half million years ago of the volcanoes that once stood here and which collapsed on themselves, creating the depressions that we can admire today with so much amazement.

Inside the crater there is a vast grassy plain and forest of Lerai, south of Lake Magadi which is positioned in the center of this plain. The yellow acacia, or fever tree, is the characteristic plant of this forest.
The concentration of fauna is impressive: more than 3,000 mammals, including the extremely rare and highly sought after black rhinoceros.

You can also visit a Maasai village, the only tribe allowed to live in this area. This is the ancestral land of the Maasai and a warrior accompanies the visit showing their fascinating culture, unchanged for hundreds of years.

Return to Arusha with packed lunch and transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) for the return international flight. End of services.
