THE MARCH OF THE SERENGETI GREAT MIGRATION
The Serengeti Great Migration is one of the most fascinating aspects of a safari in Tanzania.
Depending on the month of the year in which you are lucky enough to be in the park, the herds are positioned in a specific part and, considering that the Serengeti is immense, almost 15,000 square kilometres, we are talking about thousands of kilometers of walking and different stages.
NDUTU AND MASEK LAKES AND TRAFFIC ON TRAILS
Between January and February, in the southern part of the Serengeti, the so-called southern plains, in the areas of Ndutu and Masek lakes, the concentration of wildebeests and zebras is impressive.
Sometimes, while driving the jeep on dirt paths, you are forced to stop because these ungulates are stationed in the middle of the path. There are thousands of them. Huge groups of herbivores that feed on the rich grasses of this area.
SYNCHRONIZED BIRTHS AND THE ALWAYS READY PREDATORS
But why here? For those herbs rich in mineral salts that mothers about to breastfeed and their little ones need to grow strong.
One of the most exciting shows in all of Africa takes place in this season: the synchronized birth of approximately 500,000 puppies who come into the world within 3/4 weeks.
The ruse serves to protect the cubs from predators and to feed them adequately to face the long annual journey that awaits them in the following months.

THE MOBILE CAMPS, WHAT TO EXPECT
The accommodation facilities in the Serengeti have mobile camps, called ‘migration camps’, which move south for the calving season and north between August and October for the crossings of the Mara river.
They are tented camps equipped with all the comforts like those of permanent camps. The central tent is the meeting point for breakfast and dinner and, why not, to exchange impressions and emotions with other travellers. When you go on a safari, linguistic and cultural barriers are evaporated: only the beauty of the experience you are living exists.
